Interviews

Full Blown Chaos - Mike

17/12/04  ||  Global Domination

Old staff-member Josh interviewed Mike from Full Blown Chaos for the old GD-site and had this to say at the time:

“The first time I was introduced to Full Blown Chaos, they were opening for Superjoint Ritual in Johnson City, Tennessee. I was able to hang out with the guys before the show and speak with them about their music, history, etc. They were all extremely laid back and had just finished a tour with Biohazard, so I naturally expected them to be a decent New York hardcore band… and then they hit the stage. This band destroyed everything in their path and got an even better crowd response than Superjoint Ritual. Since then, I’ve kept in touch with their guitarist, who was cool enough to do this interview. They also have a new disc coming out Oct. 5th called “Wake The Demons”, and people… it will kill you.”

Global Domination: First off, how are things in lovely Queens, NY? Other than your stereo being stolen, of course.

Mike: Haha, not too bad. Weather’s been shitty, and of course, there’s way too much traffic.

How did Full Blown Chaos get started in the first place?

We started out just jamming on Slayer, Pantera and Metallica songs, then eventually we become serious and started to write our own stuff. FBC was then born in ‘99.

When did Stillborn Records first display an interest in the band that eventually led to your signing?

I guess it was around the summer of 2001. We played a show with Hatebreed and Jamey was into to it, so he decided to give us the deal.

You guys recently completed work on “Wake The Demons”, your debut disc for the Stillborn label. Tell us a little about the whole concept behind the name “Wake The Demons”.

Well, the whole thing is basically about the demons of your conscience eating at you, driving you nuts ya know. And we’re saying wake them, get them out. Basically take your aggression out through the music.

I’ve heard a few of these songs in a live setting already and they sound killer. Was Zeuss, your producer, able to bring out the true “evil” on this release?

Thank you. Yeah, he definitely brought out the true heaviness of the band. He gave the songs life.

Musically, how does the album differ from your previous work? I’ve heard it’s a bit more riff orientated?

There’s a lot more metal in our sound this time around. And it is definitely more riff orientated. We can’t hold back the metal influences anymore. It’s our roots, ya know, we got into heavy music from bands like Slayer and Pantera. It’s eventually gonna show, ya know?

Have you ever seen necro porn?

Nope, can’t say I have. Should I?

You’ve been on the road with many bands, dude. Out of all those tours, which would you say was not only the craziest, but also the most memorable?

I would have to say the Superjoint Ritual/Strapping Young Lad tour. There was such a good vibe on the tour. Everyone was cool and it was a great experience.

One thing that’s cool about Full Blown Chaos is how diverse you guys are musically. I know Ray is very into metalcore bands like Poison The Well and Zao, while your brother Jeff seems to have a severe hard-on for In Flames, and we all know of your love for Crowbar. How does this play into the music you make as a band?

Altogether, it just inspires us to write. We don’t like to limit ourselves.

Has anybody ever told you that you guys look a lot like Crowbar?

On a number of occasions.

I understand you’re getting ready to shoot a video for one of the tracks on your new disc. Which one is lucky enough to make the cut?

We all agreed on “Apocalypse” – it’s fast, heavy and to the point. We’re also thinking about doing a video for the title track “Wake The Demons”. For that we want to get more into the concept of the album. But that’s probably not for a little while.

Headbanger’s Ball has returned and I can find Mastodon CD’s at Wal-Mart. Do you think it’s safe to say that real metal has returned with a vengeance?

I would definitely say so. There are so many amazing bands out there that are keeping this shit alive. It’s good to see it get bigger.

Is Full Blown Chaos your full time gig or do you work day jobs to pay the bills and such?

Full time. We’re always on the road, but when we’re home we have means for cash and such. I help my dad out with work just to get me by till next tour.

What would be your dream tour to be on? This is totally up to you. Use your imagination for once!

I would say Through The Discipline, Full Blown Chaos, Slayer, Lamb of God, Hatebreed, and Pantera. That would rule.

There are definitely signs of a bright future for this band. At the end of the day, what is it that you hope to accomplish with Full Blown Chaos?

I just want to play music for a living, be able to stay on the road, and come home with money for rent and such. And make as many fans as we possibly can. And have fun at all times!

Any last words for the readers at Global Domination?

Be sure to pick up our debut full length “Wake The Demons” out Oct 5th on Stillborn Records. And we’ll see you on the road.

Mikey, thanks for doing this thing! Good luck to you fellas!

Thanks a lot Josh, you’re the man! Talk to you soon.
